Meet Your Wizard

Ingredients

Different circumstances require different approaches, and as such, I’ve trained in several modalities. But the truth is, I started coaching before I got any formal training, so my first school is THE STREETS.

Holographic NLP

I’m a master practitioner of Marin style (Holographic) NLP. I studied with Carl Buchheit and Michelle Masters for 2 years. This is the foundation of the work I do with people. It’s an extraordinary upgrade on regular NLP, in which a facility with the structure of experience is combined with a deep human heartedness and some cosmic magic.

Integral Theory

If Marin style NLP is the practical foundation, the work of philosopher Ken Wilber is the philosophical ground. Wilber’s work is unique in it’s all-encompassing scope. It is an attempt to include as much of all human knowledge and understanding into one cohesive map. This task is not possible, but Wilber’s ambitious attempt is, to me, a singular intellectual achievement, and his work has influenced my thinking in ways to numerous to count.

Most practically, it’s through Wilber that I initially became familiar with the research on adult development (eg Kegan, Cook-Greuter, Graves, Beck, Cowan), a lens that I include and find enormously valuable in working with people.

Circling and Authentic Relating

Circling is a practice of relational meditation. Paying exquisite attention to specifically what it’s like to be with this other person in this moment. It’s a skill that informs how I am with clients, and also something that is often useful for me to teach my clients, as it reliably transforms your relationships.

Ironically, I don't have any certification in Circling, because I jumped straight to teaching other people how to do it. I was part of the team that created and ran the Integral Center’s world renowned T3 circling training, and have taught Circling to hundreds of people.

Generative Trance

This is the newest ingredient in this list, but it’s powerful magic. I’m currently studying with Stephen Gilligan in this modality that’s part Ericksonian hypnotherapy, part transcendental meditation, and 100% good times.

Luminous Body Energy Medicine

Ok this is where we get weird. I studied for 2 years with Anna-Lisa Adelberg and Raina DeLear at the Luminous Body school of Energy Medicine (now Luminous awareness institute).

Here I studied a combination of meditation and energetic practices (both personal and client focussed), worked with developmental trauma, and adventured into many beautiful realms invisible to everyday mind.

Sacred Sexual Practice

And weirder still. For 2 years also, I studied sacred sexual practice with strange, occluded masters who will remain unnamed here. I learned much about the shadow, and the felt experience of connection.

I grew up in a strange, dark place in the North of England. Hull. For the first part of my life, I believed that you just took whatever life handed you and lived with it, that the world was just dumb rocks banging into dumb rocks, and that magic only existed in stories.

The greatest achievement in my life is that I no longer believe any of those things.

To transform those beliefs, I had to embark on a magical journey, which took me from the night clubs of London, to intentional communities in San Francisco, weird magic school in the mountains of Santa Cruz, another weird magic school in Marin county, and a hub of evolving consciousness in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.
